ZELUS is a roguelite, adventure, space exploration sim for the GameBoy, originally created for GB Jam 11.

This game is currently unfinished.

Planned (but missing) features include:

  • Procedurally-generated chunk-based explorable planets
  • Overworld (outdoors) terrain -- currently untextured
  • Random encounters during space travel
  • Warp drive functionality
  • Ship upgrades

The way the pseudo-procedural generation works is by generating a massive logical grid of space zones and placing six* semi-random star systems within that logical grid. Each system is supposed to give you the coordinates of the next, but because I wasn't able to finish the terrain content, that feature sadly doesn't work. When you're travelling between systems, every time you're in an "empty space" zone (and there's a LOT of empty space) you have a chance for a random encounter. Some are locked behind story progression, others have astronomical (get it?) chances of ever happening, but they should all relieve a little bit of the boredom of space travel.

woah this is polished as hell, i have no idea what im doing but it looks sick
